The picture and description rapidly captured the internet's fascination with creepy, weird, and liminal locations. It touched on a widespread anxiety of being trapped in an unending, alienating atmosphere with no way out. In essence, the Backrooms are a liminal Backrooms space—a region between worlds or realities where nothing looks right yet everything seems familiar.
